Grand Opening!
Thank you to all those who joined us for the Official Opening of the Isabel & Roy Jodrey Memorial Library on Wednesday September 23rd. It was, in a word, GREAT. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day for our celebration, nor invited a better crowd. The preparations (to the last minute) made by the Annapolis Valley Regional Library’s “crew from HQ” meant a near flawless ceremony … our kudos to you. And to our invited dignitaries … thank you for your acknowledgement and support of public libraries in general, and ours in particular … your words were much appreciated. So here's to the Isabel & Roy Jodrey Memorial Library!

The Hantsport Dream: Saved by CommunityFrom: Annapolis Valley Regional Library's blog
July 13, 2015 "After 54 years in a large classroom at the Hantsport School, the Hantsport library has moved to the larger and brighter Isabel and Roy Jodrey Memorial Library at 10 Main Street, and according to Branch Manger Elizabeth Gibson, “We are loving it!”. Open to the public for just over a week, everyone who walks through the door exclaims over the spacious, bright atmosphere. The space “gives me a sense of peace” remarked one of the patrons. The south facing windows with a view of the playground and leafy green trees contribute to the peaceful feeling, making it a pleasant environment." ... to read the rest of the article, click here |

The Friends of the Hantsport Public Library's Annual General Meeting on June 17th was not just an report on the doings of the FHPL this past year ... it was an opportunity to hear a new presentation from Roy Bishop about R.A. Jodrey and Hantsport AND it was a sneak preview of the the Isabel & Roy Jodrey Memorial Library before its opening on June 27th!
The consensus? WOW!

A small but appreciative audience at the Hantsport School gym on May 3rd thoroughly enjoyed the Off The Leash production of 'Shakespeare On Trial'. The Sunday afternoon show was Simon Henderson's final appearance as William Shakespeare and Jeremy Webb's final turn as the Judge, Prince Hamlet, the Scottish King (aka Macbeth) and Juliet as the two actors brought their six year run with the show to a close. Called to the stage to help out were Ogen Newcomb and Bertina Evers as contestants in a game show and Paul Syme gamely took on the part of Romeo as Shakespeare argued to bring his characters back to 'life'. Thanks to the Friends of the Hantsport Public Library and the Hantsport Home & School Association for bringing live theatre to our town ... ought to happen more often!

Shhhhh! Library under construction! The renovation of the entrance and upper floor of the Legion has started. And hopes are high that the Town will support the Save Hantsport Public Library (SHPL) campaign to take on and include renovation of the Legion’s lower level for community programs & meeting rooms. Please don’t hesitate to contact Hantsport's Town Council and give support to this initiative!
And how's this for great news! The Rotary Club of Windsor has chosen the SHPL as its Special Project for 2015! We are now soliciting items for the upcoming Windsor Rotary Gala & Auction (April 18th) and the Eastlink TV Auction (April 28th-30th) and welcome your support by donating, advertising, bidding, and attending these events … for more info contact Liz at the Library (684-4005) or email [email protected].

Volunteers and donors were welcomed at Churchill House on Sunday afternoon as the SHPL committee took the opportunity to say "Thank you" to all those who have helped and contributed thus far to the campaign that has now raised over $150,000! Members of the Jodrey family were there and were warmly applauded in recognition of the $100,000 donated toward the Isabel & Roy Jodrey Memorial Library. As well, Melanie Dempsey, from Scotiabank, was on hand to present a cheque for $1933 which was donated to match funds raised at the SHPL's Fall Fashion Show.
AVRL Board Chair Shirley Pineo, SHPL Fundraising Committee Chair Susan Oickle-Shano, and Hantsport Deputy Mayor & Library Advisory Committee Chair Harold Bulger all spoke to how proud they were of those working on the campaign and how pleased they were with the community's support. Much has been achieved ... but much is yet to be done. The campaign's 'fundraising sign' was on site and it will soon (weather permitting) be on display outside the Legion.

February Fashion Show
A small but appreciative crowd was on hand Saturday, February 7th, for Leslie Harvey's final tour of Jockey's Person-to-Person Spring/Summer 2015 clothing line as the company is packing up and closing its doors the end of March. Entertainment by Leslie's cohort Ruth Manning was a surprise treat and the "Church Ladies" again outdid themselves with the delightful 'afternoon tea' provided.
Congratulations to door prize winners Mary Ellen Carpenter, Gayle MacDonald, Irene Hemmings, Barbara Davis, Mary Weir, Mary Johnston, Bertina Evers, Lorraine McQueen, and to Shirley Bishop who won the $400 Shopping Spree Raffle! To everyone who braved the weather to be there and to everyone who supported the event and raffle ... thank you!
